COVID-19 has posed significant challenges for policymakers in California. From the public health crisis to economic hardship, state leaders have had no shortage of issues to tackle. But amidst all of this, we wanted to take the time to recognize the California lawmakers who are leading the way in prioritizing the long-term health of our communities through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
In a recent letter to Governor Gavin Newsom, 37 California lawmakers urged Governor Newsom to resist efforts aimed at rolling back environmental regulations in the wake of COVID-19. We agree that California must not lose momentum on clean air and climate protections. Studies show that poor air quality is inextricably linked to underlying health conditions that can make Californians more susceptible to COVID-19. The evidence is clear that particulate matter from diesel trucks and toxic additives in gasoline disproportionately harm minority communities. That’s why we must press ahead on California’s efforts to combat climate change and ensure cleaner and healthier air for its residents.
HAA is proud to thank each and every one of the 37 lawmakers who stood up to fight for clean air and healthier outcomes for Californians.
